    Description

This is a fine World War II U.S. Western G-46-8” fighting knife in leather scabbard that is excellent condition. The leather washer grip is tight and with only a few minor handling marks. The pommel is double peened at the end and holds the grip and round end cross guard tightly in place. There are no significant grinding marks on the cross guard. The blade is 8 inches long with a single-edged, clip point blade and broad fuller and retains virtually all the original beep blued finish. It has been lightly sharpened; however, this appears to be contemporary to the piece. The ricasso is marked, ‘WESTERN’ over ‘PAT’D’, a marking used only on the early 1940-1941 produced knives. The brown leather scabbard remains supple and is in very good field used condition with all blued rivets and stitching tight intact. The handle retaining strap is strong and with functional snap. The reverse is ink stamped with the original owner’s name, ‘K.W. SLOOP’. A beautiful and well-built U.S. fighting knife that remains is excellent, undamaged condition.
This knife was developed during the Second World War by Western Cutlery of Boulder Colorado, with the intention of selling it to the U.S. Marine. However, the knife proved too expensive to produce compared to other competitors
