WW2 British Royal Navy dive knife, orig cast bronze scabbard, prob Siebe Gorman

Description

Original British Royal Navy issue dive knife likely manufactured by the famous English SIEBE GORMAN & CO. diving equipment company. This type was marked on the blade only; all original markings are gone on this specimen. This type is illustrated on pages 84-85 of the excellent reference book BRITISH AND COMMONWEALTH MILITARY KNIVES by Ron Flook -see the scans. The knife is about 12-7/8″ / 32.7 cm overall; the blade is about 7-3/8″ /18.8 cm; it is heavily pitted from exposure; it's been nicely cleaned-up. An unusual lathe-turned plastic handle with brass guard and screw-on pommel handle (late-war knives had mold-cast plastic handles). The handle solid; all parts are tight. Original cast bronze scabbard is in great shape, considering the age; leather loop hanger seems to be a later addition.

diving equipment company. The original design with handles made of wood or stacked leather washers goes back to the late 1800th; the “upgraded” plastic handle version was used throughout WW2. With the exception of the special-order knives with non-magnetic blades used in demining operations most of these knives had high-carbon blades for the duration of the war.

The knife is about 12-7/8″ / 32.7 cm overall; the blade is about 7-3/8″ / 18.8 cm long; it is heavily pitted from exposure to salt water; it's been nicely cleaned-up. An unusual lathe-turned  plastic handle with brass guard and screw-on pommel handle (late-war knives had mold-cast plastic handles). The handle solid; all parts are tight. Original cast bronze scabbard is well-used but it's in great overall shape, considering the age; numerous small contact marks are noted for accuracy. A hand-made leather loop hanger seems to be a later addition.
Overall, this original WW2 era British dive knife is in 100% serviceable condition still; with proper care it will last you another 80 years ;)
The knife has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way; 100% original "as is" condition. These are the actual photos; spent brass is not included with the knife ;) Buyers must be over 18 years of age. We combine shipping for multiple purchases and will ship within 24 hrs of cleared payment.
