Vintage WWII U.S. M3 Fighting Knife • Blade Stamped Imperial w/ B. M. Co. Sheath

This is an original WWII blade stamped U.S. M3 fighting knife that was made by Imperial in the early 1940s. It comes with a B. M. Co. U.S. M8 sheath. As you can see, the knife has been messed with a little bit but I do not know the reason why. Someone took a file and reshaped the tip of the knife into a more traditional-style hunting blade. I'm not sure if it was because they chipped the very tip of the blade or if they liked the look of this better. The blade edge does not seem to be altered very much but someone did try to sharpen it and did a fairly poor job.
The blade is stamped "
US M3 IMPERIAL
." There is the flaming bomb stamp on the pummel. The leather is in nice condition though a little darker in some spots. The handguard is in excellent condition but does have just a very little bit of movement, maybe 1 mm of play. This could be due to shrinkage of the leather handle. The overall length of the knife is 10-7/8". The blade length is 6-1/16" from the top of the guard to the tip. The sheath or scabbard is in excellent condition. The snap works fine. The canvas is in very good shape. Even though it does have a little bit of a flaw on the blade, it is still a nice, historic soldier-used fighting knife that is a harder-to-find version with the stamped blade. A great example.
