Vintage Octal 8-Pin Vacuum Tube Test Socket Saver Adapter w/ Plate Grid Cap

Up for sale here is this used vintage octal 8-pin
tube test socket saver or adapter.  This is in good shape and is guaranteed to work well for you.  It has a wire with a plate/grid cap sticking out of it.  Not sure exactly what this is for, but maybe you can figure it out.  Please see my pictures for details.
