    Description

Offered for your consideration is a very unique and beautifully crafted vintage theater-made fighting knife. Theater knives were made by the tens of thousands during times of war. They can span the spectrum from crude, rudimentary knives, to elaborate, high-quality knives. They were crafted by soldiers, generally in the theater of battle, and were made out necessity, to battle boredom, or simply as a hobby. They were generally crafted from materials available to soldiers in the field, although many of the more elaborate knives were made aboard ships in their well-equipped machine shops. This knife came from a huge (well over 750+) life-long collection of theater-made knives. While the exact provenance of most theater knives is usually impossible to determine (unless of course, they were signed or passed down as family heirlooms), these knives usually have a very distinctive design and appearance. This knife was very nicely crafted from some of the most common and readily available materials in a WWII theater of war: aluminum and brass. It has a long, sleek blade and it's a fairly large knife.
The knife appears to have seen light to moderate use after it was crafted. It has not been buffed, polished, or altered and remains exactly as it was made.
This knife has a very distinct and unique appearance to complement its sturdy build. The design appears to have been executed with penetration ability as a focus. The blade is long enough to penetrate deeply, even through thick garments.
The long carbon steel blade is free of serious corrosion or deep pitting with just some scattered spots of the usual fine surface peppering (almost certainly present at the time the knife was made) as shown. The blade is free of errant grinder marks or harsh sharpening abrasions with just some fine sharpening abrasions along the edge as shown. The edge is free of any cracks, chips, dings, or damage and it remains nice with just some normal wear. It remains fairly sharp and the knife is ready for immediate use, although a quick touch-up would have it razor sharp in no time. The tip remains intact and original with no breaks or bending. The oval guard is of brass and it remains completely tight with no bending, marring, or damage. The blade is nicely centered within the guard and the blade/guard junctions are very clean. The handle was very nicely done and crafted from alternating segments of brass and aluminum discs. The handle is free of any marring or damage with just some normal light wear. The pommel was shaped from solid brass and shows excellent symmetry.
It's free of any dings, dents, marring, or damage and it has never been used to pound or hammer. All handle components remain solid and tight with no looseness or play. In fact, the entire knife remains tight with not a wiggle or rattle anywhere.
The knife measures 13-1/4" in overall length.
There is no sheath with this knife, although a suitable candidate should be fairly easy to come by.
If you're a collector and/or enthusiast of theater knives, this a very interesting and solid knife that's certainly one-of-a-kind.
A unique, premium-quality theater knife that was very nicely done all the way around!
