Description
Model 1902 Army Officers Etched Sword with Scabbard. The ricasso is faintly marked "Springfield Armory" over "Springfield" over "Mass. U.S.A.". The guard and grip are loose. The brown horn grip has a couple small spots of loss, nothing major. One knuckle branch is bent, very typical of the fragile German silver. The etched blade has "US", an eagle, and other etched designs, it is straight, unsharpened, the tip is sharp, it has sections of surface loss (still flaking)with a little rust
scattered throughout. The scabbard is solid with some dents/dings, not straight, has a 1 5/8" slice on an edge, a 3/16" slice, and areas of surface loss with light rust scattered throughout. Leather washer is intact. Length of the blade measures 31 3/4" (15/16" wide x 1/4" thick), length of the sword is 37 1/4", and overall in the scabbard it is 38 3/8".
The guard is German silver (non-magnetic)!!
Type I variation was only made for one year, 1903 to 1904.
