    Description

An original bayonet for the M1 Garand service rifle. This bayonet was made by Union Fork and Hoe, (UFH) in 1943, a model1905 type 2, a 16 inch blade. Starting in 1944 these bayonets were recalled and altered to a 10 inch blade, becoming a  model 1905E1. This one was cut down to form a spear point. Bayonet has the markings of UFH and 1943 on obverse, reverse has small ordnance marking and two faint letters. Markings on reverse probably relate to the alteration work done.
The scabbard also saw war time modification. Originally manufactured 16 inch bayonet scabbards known as pattern M3, they were cut down to conform with the shortened bayonets. This one was shortened on the tip end.
This is a nice bayonet. Has no nicks on blade. Ribbed plastic grips have two small nicks on one side. Screw that holds grips in place is a little long and protrudes slightly. Bayonet functions well and locks on to a M1 rifle with ease.
