1988 BMW M3 original vintage advertisement.
    DESCRIPTION:
    INTRODUCING THE NEW PERFORMANCE STANDARD.
BMW’s renowned Motorsport racing division has taken the powerplant which, in Formula One form, won nine Grands Prix.
And has built a magnificent new road car around it.
Introducing the new standard in compact, high performance sports sedans:
    The BMW M3.
On the racetrack, the M3 has annihilated its opposition for the 1987 European Group A Touring Car Championship.
On its homeland autobahns, the M3 is similarly invincible.
    The logic of illogic.
    Unless they race it,
the M3’s Canadian owners will never realize the M3's performance potential. Nonetheless, and speed limits notwithstanding, they will continually sense - and relish - its capacity.
Because BMW standards embrace a wider set of performance values than speed alone.
The M3’s speed is disciplined by a compelling combination of handling and braking. As one normally blase driver summed up a Bavarian test drive:
“The experience left me positively aching to own one.”
The M3 costs some ,000*. However, before you sigh and turn the page, ponder the following:
The M3 is a development of the other Three Series BMWs — the 325i and the 325.
    Alternative merits.
Among “regular” sports sedans, the 325i sets performance standards of its own-in both speed and handling dexterity. The ‘eta’ (for efficiency) engined 325 is somewhat less quick than the 325i —although many drivers will neither notice nor need the difference.
Both the 325 and 325i share BMW's peerless steering and suspension systems.
Result: Handling that is unflappable, whatever the call.
Which is a large part of the joy of driving a BMW. Including — and perhaps especially — the smaller BMWs.
One last consideration: Price. The 325 and 325i cost some ,000 to ,000 less than the racetrack purebred M3.
The choice is yours. We invite you to visit a BMW dealer and drive your choice.
For the essence of M3 is within them all.
    The M3 Digest.
